For the Sake of Women, Let’s Admit That Kamala and Hillary Sucked

Democrats can nominate a woman, just not one of those two

Axios is reporting that “some top Democrats” feel that the party must nominate a straight, white, Christian man for president in 2028. This same sentiment was recently expressed by Michelle Obama, who said that America isn’t ready for a woman president and cited the ‘24 election as proof. And even if “some top Democrats” means Bill De Blasio and Dennis Kucinich (how far does your definition of “top” stretch?), Axios is definitely reporting on a real thing that some people think.

A strange dynamic has developed. The most identity-obsessed Democrats — the folks who have not yet buried their copy of White Fragility deep in the woods, never to be spoken of again — only want to nominate a white guy. The same people who recently treated “Ugh, white men 🙄” as the apotheosis of political punditry now demand a white guy. Am I allowed to say “ugh” to that? Because my quaint view is that any likeable person with good ideas would be a strong candidate. And actually, I’m going to say it: I say “ugh” to thee, progressive weirdos.

It makes sense that the “has to be a white guy” view would thrive among people who live in a world in which there’s a big social penalty for speaking ill of any individual with a high Diversity Score. Consider the galaxy of shit that Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers got for saying that Jasmine Crockett is a weak candidate, a statement that’s about as obvious as “Kristi Noem’s face is incorrect”. If you live in a world in which Harris, Hillary, and Crockett — the ‘70s country-folk trio that somehow wasn’t — are seen as kickass girlbosses, then their losses are hard to explain. How could all those coconut memes and a Pokemon joke that was almost too funny not have put them on the fast track to the White House? Sexism is the only possible explanation.
