Kamala Harris is a rocks for jocks type person. Not smart, not articulate. This I hear from someone in her campaign, who has written speeches for Biden (who used to be very articulate).
Sometimes uninspiring dolts work out. Gerald Ford being an uninspiring, kind of milquetoast figure who was seen as a decent guy by everyone proved to be good enough choice when Nixon resigned.
It’s been a while since 2020, but I find in hard to believe that the democratic bench of good black female candidates was that small. Was it a failure of imagination? Did they not look at their house delegation? State houses? Local governments?
I think Rice and Demmings would have been better options.
Susan Rice was without a doubt the smartest on that list.

i’m going to have to disagree that kamala coming out against biden policy would have resonated anywhere. I don’t think ppl even kept track that much. This narrative caught on between writers who are middle of the road dems that kamala could have been forceful against some biden policy choices and that would have been a win. We have no idea or proof that this would have worked. All of it may have collapsed surrounding trans commercials.
perhaps tho it would have been good for her to have a separate persona with clear preferences and desires and i do agree she never likes to take a position. People do notice that. I think immigration was salient, but it was already painted as her failure. I think the trans one was the big thing tho
She could have said something anodyne and simple. "The Afghanistan withdrawal was handled poorly." (Like: no shit.) she could have continued on: "We fired one person for that debacle, and that was the guy who went on TV two weeks before and said it was going to be a clusterfuck." "That was bad. I want accountability in my officers, and will stand for nothing less."
I mean, that's an easy win.
Even easier: "We should have sent non-solar-powered chainsaws to North Carolina. That impeded disaster recovery, for no known net good, other than "ecology points." And mama's insulin doesn't care about "ecology points" that FEMA is getting."
(Disclaimer: ecology points are an entirely made-up concept attempting to encapsulate the social credit that a bureacrat gets for being "green" in a Democratic administration).

It's indicative of a completely unprepared person (and campaign). It is not hard to "have something in the current administration" to disagree with, if you even pay attention to the news. "I want to be President" isn't good enough, you have to know what you want to do with the position.
You're right, that having something to say there wouldn't have won her the election (probably. She might could have said something about Palestine that might have worked.) But it's such a bad sign about her campaign.
If she was very prepared, why didn't she have a damn policy position? Hillary had policy, Bernie had policy, Obama had policy... Kamala Harris had "I agree with all democratic positions, everywhere. Don't ask about Palestine."

From a guy in her campaign: she lost at the first debate (Yes, I know people claimed she won...). At the first debate, she turned off black male voters HARD. And she needed every vote, in order to win the general. So she starts hauling out Obama, and the black men's response is "you ain't my daddy."
I don't think she has preferences, other than "I win and get to be president." (not as silly as you think. Trump took until mid-October 2016 before he believed he could actually become president. Until then he was content with playing the heel for hillary).
She lost, in part, because of the many people who dismissed all criticism of her as being about her womanhood, and the many other people who noticed a pattern with the first group and are very tired of it.
