In the most Steely Dan move ever, the only cover that Steely Dan ever released on an album was a note for note remake of East St. Louis Toodle-oo

I watched gangs of New York for the first time last year. I was so shocked by how bad it was I texted a bunch of cinephile friends to see if I was missing something. Thank you for verifying that I don't need to give it a second chance.

Just the sound of a muted trumpet makes me wanna watch Owen Wilson be Woody Allen.

Jeff, I'm surprised you don't use burner accounts to look at internet content that you know will mess with the algorithm in a way you will not like.....

Hungary was to a certain kind of right winger what the USSR, then Maoist China, then Vietnam, the Khmer Rouge for a minute, and now Cuba is to a certain kind of left winger. And similarly to the communist regimes, Hungary actively courted, supported, and financed many of their supporters in the US and Western Europe.

I think your last point, regarding ease of ballot access, actually ties into your other article, that Americans think Democrats are racists. I've never voted in a US election, but I know a lot of people who have, and none have said it's particularly hard. So when Democrats make statements about it being too hard to vote for blacks et al, I think it strikes people as saying that these minorities are just not smart enough to vote, unlike "you".

The only Austrian leader whose name I can think of is Engelbert Dollfuss (who was assassinated by Nazis in 1934). The only Engelbert I can think of besides Humperdinck. And DOLLFUSS sounds a lot like Dollface!
