You can't talk about the Scopes trial without reference to H.L. Mencken, who helped instigate it and beautifully described it (although it's the Baltimore Sun, not the NYT).
Something so cheap that you think the price must be a mistake is always a welcome surprise. I crossed Hong Kong harbor between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island on the Star Ferry in 1964 for 0.10¢. That's what I call a cheap ride, better than 0.08¢ to ride through a NYC tunnel in 1925.
As populism goes, the 5 cent a ride promise forever was fine. You bring up inflation but inflation as we know it basically didn't exist a century ago. That they successfully kept it at 5 cents for 20 years shows this.
I'm impressed the decision makers stayed away from dealing with pennies every time they raised the fare price over the decades. Probably a logistical reason.....

"The Hills of Zion" is one of the funniest essays ever written.
At what point will you sneak in an article you already recorded from a previous podcast? Do you think we would notice?
This will probably happen when I forget that I already recorded it, get 3/4 through, and think “this seems familiar “.
You should do a voice over of an episode you've already done a voice over on.
"EIGHT CENTS!!!!". Pheeeeenomenal delivery of that line. I shouted laughter.
