Jeff, if you ever find yourself working as a baseball manager, just pretend the players you need to cut are unpaid subscribers.

At least your baseball coach only left your name off a list.

Mine screamed at me to get off the field and never come back.

True story.....

Literally just before Jeff pondered why he doesn't understand why the left has become opposed to meritocracy, I thought "Oh, now that the Dems represent the party of the haves, they are going to oppose meritocracy".

What do you think of their arguments against meritocracy, which are usually some variation of "it's not really meritocratic and just a proxy for racism/cisism/sexism/etc."

if I'm not mistaken, "back seat minister" is 70s Brit slang for street hoe.🤔

I don't think that lifelong Liberal David Lloyd George would appreciate being described as Labour.

I’m not sure if other industries should optimize quite as aggressively as entertainment. Thinking of your time at the epa - most organizations can’t survive that level of turnover.

It’s also really hard to work in a field and support a family if having a bad month or 2 would mean you have to take a 50% paycut.

In the case of "Midnight Sky":the public validated Jeff's opinion.

That $100 million dollar classic grossed $3 million dollars.

Or was it the pandemics fault?

Sadly, we will never know.....

‘Deed I Do… classic. It’s hard to put ourselves in the lives of people 100 years ago. Radio had just been commercialized three years earlier - most people didn’t have a set in 1926. Lots of folks had record players. Why did this record stand out? Could have been the lyrics.

How did ‘Deed I Do became a jazz standard? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%27Deed_I_Do

"I do not like to make British people feel good about themselves."

Don't worry, we prefer not to make ourselves feel good about ourselves either!

Maurer, I think you are deluded if you believe the Left is generally more in favor of rewards based on performance than the Right. But I can also easily see where you yourself favor this, based on career choices where you bet on yourself. And, you are on the Left. So you want to make that association. But that doesn’t make it generally true of the Left. Reference: DEI, quotas, UBI, Medicare-for-all, teaching-tenure, deep-blue state policies (hi tax, nanny state).

One can make a case for or against these examples. But they are the opposite of meritocracy and they are heavily Left-coded.

But also really great read

i dislike kushner due to his obvious double dealing. Hunter getting a job on the board of burisma due to his dad’s name and using his dad’s name to make deals is actually not the same? was worth much less money? and is fucking legal? No, it is not legal to enrich yourself thru your white house advisor work, and he still appears to be in some advisor capacity. It’s one thing to criticize both libs and right wingers for similar shit-i am on board with your equating warren and trump over some things. It’s another thing to force it where it makes little sense. “Yeh but you got all these parking tickets” is not the same as “it’s just a DUI! who among us” All this does is keeps regular morons from understanding what real corruption looks like an trump flourishes in this ambiguity

Also both men are quite intelligent and useful, even if you don’t like the things they do. Neither of them are brainless wastes of space or blobs of fat.

Lots of truth in the episode. But as a 45 yo who grew up on the Eastside nothing more than "they're good now but for most of my life if you like Mariners baseball get used to watching them lose because its going to happen a lot."

Reminds me a few years back there was a big push by MLB to get more blacks into the "show." All kinds of ideas were thrown around but hey, if most of them want to play football or basketball what ya gonna do?
