
I find the idea of a national conversation on AI regulation inherently funny. A national conversation? With this nation, whose current conversations include: 1) Whether the Jews snuck letters into math, and 2) Whether Sydney Sweeney’s side-boob means we’re living in The Handmaid’s Tale or is feminism’s final victory? It seems like before we grapple with the inherent complexity of regulating advanced technology, we should maybe take on a low-stakes warmup conversation or two. How about whether it’s okay to swim right after eating — did we ever get to the bottom of that? Or whatever happened to those rats who died from drinking too much Diet Coke? Let’s knock out a few easy questions just to get the blood pumping.
The “LOL we’re doomed” argument really picks up steam when you gawk at the guy whom We, The People chose to lead us. At a moment when it’s clear that delicate decisions are required, this fellow is helming the ship:
