Maurer, you recently said that “everyone does safe comedy” (ref Colbert and Gutfield). Yet, this is the opposite of that. And not a one-off. You are unsafe. And I love your work because of it.
Thank you, and I try to cultivate an audience that understands that my goal is simply to mock whatever I think deserves to be mocked, regardless of ideology, but that sort of "heterodox" (or whatever word you want to use) is *itself* a worldview, so maybe my method just cultivates an audience of like-minded people, so...¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There are plenty of people who think funny is funny, unfortunately most of them are not interested in politics, and relatedly, most people interested in politics care more about affirming their views than having the stupidity of their own side pointed out in a funny way. That is why neutral political comedy is heterodox, you are trying to mix 2 things that don’t go together anymore. Which sicks, because there is so much about politics on both sides worthy of being made fun of.
Like, I bet the guy who wrote this had a college education too, so Democrats arguing about how college education is not broken in many ways (due to their own side’s efforts even) this is a great example.
I also have a deep fascination with the sundry McDonalds mascots. If the author wishes to imply that I am suffering from developmental disabilities, he is nothing but a ham-burglaring son-of-a-bitch.
And what was Birdie's deal? Was she....was she fucking the clown?
The sad part is I understood the relevance to the Szechuan sauce part. After it was referenced in a Rick & Morty episode, McDonald’s announced a 2018 brief revival of the Szechuan sauce. The supplies given to local franchisees were far exceeded by the demand.
In response, McDonald’s worked with Gizmodo and The Onion to make Mayka a podcast about the whole Szechuan sauce ordeal.
Best of luck to that British lady who does the audio for your articles
She wrote to me this morning and quit.
Jeff: GOD I hope so!
I’m surprised she didn’t quit after the article written by the Twitter porn bot.
Nooo

Jeff: There are people out here who believe funny is funny no matter what side it's on.
Your work reminds me of the Doonesbury comic strip I grew up with. That dude made fun of both sides as well as you do.....
The hardest part of writing a post like that is fighting with auto correction. :)
Mark: Combat pay level hard.....
I really would like to see what happens if a DNC staffer wrote the word “gayballs”
Probably something like this, but with more snivelling and crying and less dramatic music:

A truly thought provoking and trenchant analysis.
I'm sure that someone with the proper kind of lexdyxia could read through Mr Rivera's letter much quicker'n I managed to.
For a similarly searing analysis without the humor but even more insight, try: https://hollymathnerd.substack.com/p/the-autopsy-that-disowned-itself
Ronetc: Thanks for that link! It was very interesting (at least the free part). Her explanation at the end for having a paywall is funny!
Not something I would have expected from a data analyst.
And yes, you can tell from the free part of her post that the DNC's refusal to deal with the Lefty Loons is a big problem.....
Thanks I hate it.
About covers it.
No way to do the "Section Left Blank" portions, I suppose.
