Above: A scene from demonstrations in Portland this week.

The Trump administration is dying, desperate, absolutely bulging-in-their-pants to do the “chaos in the streets” narrative. This week, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem visited the ICE building in Portland that Trump claims is “under siege” with a camera crew in tow. Despite a breathless tweet from the MAGA influencer who supplied the camera crew that Noem “[stared] down army of Antifa,” footage from the encounter told a different story.

Watching that makes me think: What the hell happened to this country? We’re 2-0 in world wars, we invented flight, the cheeseburger, and road head, and yet we’re led by these posturing dipshits whose top priority is to create social media content. It’s not like I’m a huge fan of the guy in the chicken suit — looking at him gives me an irresistible urge to ask “Are you employed, Mr. Lebowski?” — but my biggest eye roll is for the cabinet secretary staring down eight randos in a parking lot like she’s Eisenhower looking across the English Channel on D-Day. Everyone in that video should just immediately go home.
