Making sense of the leftist position on AI can be like trying to interpret hieroglyphics made by an Egyptian who was drunk-carving to begin with. Consider this answer from AOC:
There are parts of that I agree with, parts I don’t, and parts that make me want to sit in a corner, eat chicken tenders, and never think about politics again.1 Why is she so concerned about an AI bubble? If it’s a bubble, then who cares — it’s all hype, AI is on a bullet train to Zune City, USA, and the problem will fix itself. But consider how much time AOC devotes to each of the “two things that can be true at once”:
Thing 1: AI can be dangerous when pursued without guardrails: 10 seconds
Thing 2: It’s a bubble, and we must avoid a bailout: 88 seconds
AOC issued a press release that’s much like her answer above: Brief lip service to AI dangers followed by a quick pivot to a long, rambling narrative about an AI bubble. At times, she sounds like Michael Moore; other times, Ayn Rand. It’s bizarre, and it took me quite a while to figure out what the hell she was talking about.
