As Thomas Jefferson famously put it, “were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. Especially if the latter includes a regular stream of tits and ass masquerading as news.”
CNN's teaser banner this morning reads "US and Iran trade strikes in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump's approval rating at historic low. The most striking looks from Met Gala."
I also remember this headline from during the Syrian civil war: "Syrian First Lady Asma Al-Assad's Tricks For Maintaining Skincare Regimen During Internecine National Conflict."
As with the October 1973 issue of Penthouse magazine, I read this strictly for the articles. This is an excellent source of elite human capital. Carry on.
I spent a full hour reviewing the entire NYT coverage of the outfits and I can say with confidence (1) that the level of absurdity was substantially higher than average and (2) other than Gigi Hadid, there was substantially less quasi-nudity than usual for these affairs. Sigh.
Nice article! It was very interesting, and I saw you padded it with some sort of text.
Feel free to skip the text.

We now have government with no newspapers.
Ready to try the opposite.
This is The Onion content I gladly pay for!

Actual headline in today’s NYTimes: "It Was a Very Nipple-Forward Red Carpet"
This article caused Substack to recommend Maria Sharapova's Substack to me. That is a thing I did not know existed. Thanks Jeff...

God bless the Met Gala and their vital work of raising money for charity or weapons manufacture or whatever the fuck it is they do
But women fought for the right to show off boobs for attention seeking

Met Gala: the legitimate news’ swimsuit issue
Today I leaned that red carpet pics are aimed squarely at…heterosexual men.
Huge if true.
